Suet Recipes for Our Feathered Friends
Simple Suet Recipe
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup lard
1 cup flour
2 cups cornmeal
2 cups quick-cooking oats
Melt lard and peanut butter in microwave then stir in remaining ingredients. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Makes approximately 6 to 8 cakes.
Making a large batch of suet?
Mix together in large bowl
2 lbs melted lard
3 lbs wild birdseed
5 lbs yellow cornmeal
1 lg jar of crunchy peanut butter
Southwest Suet
½ cup flour
½ cup oats
½ cup peanuts
½ cup raisins
½ cup sunflower seeds
½ cup chopped corn
2 cups peanut butter
2 cups lard
Melt the lard & peanut butter. Mix all ingredients in a large cake pan and refrigerate until hard. Cut into squares and fill the suet feeders.
No Bake Pie Crust Suet
Mix together
1 cup flour
½ cup lard
¼ tsp salt and just enough water to form it into balls
No need to bake, simply fill the feeder.
Tips for Making Suet…
ü Add left over dog biscuits or the crumbs to suet recipes.
ü Honey and corn syrup can also be easily added to just about any suet recipe.
ü Freeze suet in a clean milk or orange juice container and slice it as you need.
